You'll hear plenty of reasons why Muhammad Ali is a legend in the days following his death --€” from his biggest victories to his inspirational words --€” but few stars who share that label can claim something like this.
Ali once talked a suicidal man down from a ninth-floor ledge, saving his life. According to a CBS News report of the incident, which occurred in Los Angeles in 1981, Ali rushed from his home a mile away and volunteered to talk to the young African American man who was threatening to jump.

"I'm your brother, I want to help you," Ali reportedly called out to the man from an adjacent window.
After some coaxing, the man finally stepped back inside and into the arms of Ali, who comforted the sobbing man. He succeeded in 20 minutes after negotiators had failed for hours.
