California issues boxing license to Conor McGregor

It looks like Conor McGregor may potentially step inside a boxing ring next. He has been issued a boxing license from the state of California.

For those who live under a rock, Conor McGregor is the face of the UFC (and MMA) right now. Although he was recently stripped of his UFC featherweight title, prior to this, he was the first ever two-weight world champion inside of the promotion.

As it stands right now, he’s the current undisputed UFC lightweight champion of the world. He has taken the MMA world with his incredible fighting ability and personality. But McGregor doesn’t seem content just yet. He’s looking to do even bigger things by stepping into the boxing world.

According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, McGregor has been issued a boxing license by the state of California. He confirmed this with the California State Athletic Commission.

Andy Foster, an executive officer from the CSAC, also confirmed with MMA Fighting. “He got a license today and a federal ID. He’s a California boxer now,” he said.

He also said, “He’s qualified as a boxer. I’d love to see him fight in California. It just needs to be the right opponent. Certainly a high-level opponent.”

It has been long rumored that a fight between McGregor and Floyd Mayweather would happen soon enough. Both have entertained the match-up on social media, but nothing has been made official just yet.

With McGregor getting a boxing license, this only moves him one step closer to a fight with Mayweather. So far, McGregor has a lot of options.

Being the current lightweight champion, he can either defend his belt, or maybe even compete in a boxing match. Only time will tell what McGregor’s next move is.
