British boxer Nicola Adams turns professional

LONDON (AP) Two-time Olympic women's boxing champion Nicola Adams has turned professional.

The 34-year-old flyweight from Britain has joined promoter Frank Warren and will make her professional debut in Manchester on April 8.

Writing on Twitter, Adams says ''I've officially joined the Pro ranks.''

Adams became the first Olympic women's boxing champion at the 2012 London Games. She retained her title last year in Rio de Janeiro.

Rob McCracken, the performance director of British boxing, says ''she has won everything there is to win and her place in history is secured as the first women to ever win a gold medal for boxing and then top it by winning a second one in Rio.''
