British boxer buys $160K engagement ring

British boxing champion Amir Khan splashed out $160,000 on an engagement ring for his New York-based girlfriend, he revealed Wednesday.

Khan, 24, decided to propose to 20-year-old Faryal Makhdoom this month after meeting her just four times in a six-month whirlwind romance.

He plans to floor her with a three five-carat diamond sparkler he bought from a jewelry shop in Los Angeles.

"This is the best ring you've seen," Khan told The Sun. "It's beautiful!"

A source said, "It needs a few alterations, but Amir's chuffed [happy] to bits with it. Faryal's very special to him, and he wanted the ring to be special, too."

Makhdoom, who studies political science and journalism, recently posted a picture of Khan on Facebook and wrote, "My soon 2b fiance!"
