Andre Berto rips Floyd Mayweather: I should have worn track shoes
Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s fighting style again has been questioned.
Mayweather improved to 49-0 when he defeated Andre Berto by unanimous decision Saturday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The undefeated champion won decisively, but Berto wasn’t thrilled with his opponent’s unwillingness to go toe to toe in the ring.
“I didn’t know I was going to have to wear track shoes (Saturday),” Berto told TMZ Sports after the bout. “I had to do a lot of chasing.
“That’s him, man,” Berto added. “He runs around, he holds you, he does all that type of (stuff), but everybody can see I really gave him a fight.”
Mayweather has a reputation for running around the ring and keeping his opponents at bay rather than brawling. It’s not exactly the most entertaining style -- ask those who paid good money to see Money face Manny Pacquiao back in May -- but it’s definitely effective.
And we might never see it again, as Mayweather claims he’s now retired.
